1/4 x 3/4 x 16 in. African Mahogany Turning Blank is crafted from African Mahogany, primarily sourced from West Africa with some from Central and East Africa. This wood includes various species of Khaya, with weights ranging between 33 lb/ft to 50 lb/ft. The most prized variety, Khaya Ivorensis, is valued for its stability and excellent working properties. The heartwood initially appears distinctly pink when freshly cut, evolving to colors from light pinkish-brown to a rich, deep reddish tone as it seasons. The sapwood, which is yellowish-brown, may not always be clearly separated from the heartwood. Featuring interlocking grain and a coarse texture, this wood benefits from a reduced cutting angle of 15 degrees to minimize surface pick-up during machining.
